Instituted on 14th October 1914 for award to Petty Officers and ratings of the Royal Navy

British service personnel qualified for this medal for one days' service in Korea or Japan between July 1950 and July 1953. Also awarded for service in Korea between July 1953 and July 1954. In this case it was awarded without the Korea Medal.
