The distillery was given its current name in 1940. This can be traced back to a turkey hunt in which Austin Nichols' manager carried various samples of his new bourbon whiskey with him. The wild turkeys hunted and the bourbon samples gave the distillery its current name. Wild Turkey 101 matured in fresh American white oak barrels (Virgin Oak) for an undefined
